Dr. Jay Hilfiger will talk about his new book, Graphing Data with R (2016). He then will present an investigation of a special use case with R -- analyzing a high-density data set -- and several graphical approaches to understanding it. The presentation will be catered to be of interest to people of all experience levels, from absolute beginners to R experts.
John Jay Hilfiger is a statistician/ data analyst and composer/arranger. A graduate of the University of Rochester, he did graduate studies at Temple University (MS in biostatistics), Binghamton University (MM) and the University of Iowa (PhD in music). Jay has worked as a data analyst/ statistician at three major universities (Rochester, Iowa and Cornell) and has also been a music professor. In addition to Jay's recent book, Graphing Data with R, his publications include a number of papers in both music history and statistics as well as over 100 musical compositions and arrangements.
