Productizing Drupal is hard. Making it a usable platform for a customer base while utilizing the powerful customization features and creating a maintainable code base is harder. As a software lead, junior developer, product manager or director of a major company, it is necessary to strike the balance of delivering software on time and providing something customers want.
During this talk, Tim Whitney will discuss the challenges and successes of running a productized platform with 3500+ sites and stepping back to creating a platform with 50 sites. The talk will go over: considerations for the code base, maintenance schedules, product planning and just general lamenting about Drupal. At the end the discussion will shift to Drupal the product and how we as a community can continually strive to make it better.
