Do you fear the robot uprising? Does the computing power of your coffee maker make you feel insecure about your own ability to do math? Are you curious about what dark forces compel your Roomba? Well, fret no longer! In this multi-part series, I will guide you step-by-step through the process of building your own robot from scratch, and programming it to do your bidding! (as long as “do your bidding” is understood to mean “wander aimlessly around until it gets stuck on something or the batteries die)
In the second class of our DIY robotics series, students will learn how to make their bot interact with the world around it using buttons, sonar, piezo buzzers, and LEDs. Topics include programming loops and if/else statements that will allow your bot to process sensor data, installing the buttons and sensors themselves, using the data you collect to control a piezo buzzer, and how to combine this knowledge to make everything from a motion detector to a music box.
Students attending this class will be invited to attend an upcoming robotics work-session at no additional charge.
An upcoming class will delve deeper motor control, mobile power supplies, and chassis assembly, culminating in the construction of a small but functional robot.
* Please bring a laptop if you have one. We will have some computers available.
*While not strictly a prerequisite, this class assumes knowledge of the material covered in DIY Robotics part 1: Flashing Lights. Review materials will be made available before the class.
