The first Charleston Women in Tech MeetUP in 2019 will feature a panel of professionals (engineering, product, marketing) Hear their own experience being the only woman on their team; the challenges and the triumphs and determine if you might use some of their experience to help you cope and ultimately thrive as a woman in technology. Lisa Berry is an IT consultant for the Department of Defense where she’s the product owner and senior liaison for the security cooperation enterprise known as GlobalNET Platform. As a female tech expert, motivational speaker and coach, she has cracked the code for communication and confidence, blazing her own path. Lisa teaches others how to be better, stronger, and tougher by embracing the unique qualities that make us all weird. She gave her first TEDx talk in December 2018 at TEDx Hilton Head Women. Lisa was 2014 & 15 event chair for the grassroots UNconference event BarCamp Charleston. She’s currently the District Program Quality Director, for the non-profit leadership and communication organization, Toastmasters International. Here she oversees the education and training program for the 2500 members of the state of South Carolina, known as District 58.
Jen Boulware is the Senior Director of Engineering at Snagajob, the leading marketplace for hourly work, where she oversees a team of 20+ engineers on efforts supporting their workforce management solutions. She brings with her over 15 years experience in building web applications. As an engineering leader she is able to leverage passion for building strong teams and products. She is also a member of the Charleston Women in Tech Board.
Margaret Godowns is a Project Manager and Certified ScrumMaster at BoomTown. Originally from Orangeburg, SC, she graduated from Wofford College in 2013 with a degree in English Literature. She attended The Iron Yard in 2014 for a 3-month Bootcamp in frontend development. After that, she worked as a junior developer for eHouse Studio, Fuzzco, and BoomTown before transitioning into project management
Liz Healy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, she received her bachelor's degree from West Virginia University. She moved to Charleston to attend the College of Charleston for her Masters in Computer Science. She is a Software Developer at Micfo where she works with developing their cloud management platform, automated provisioning, and virtualization.
Amy Piazza is a technical leader with over 20 years of experience successfully building and delivering products for large and small companies. Currently, Amy is the CTO for TSPS, Inc. - a startup working to create innovative parking solutions for the trucking and logistics industry. Previously she has worked to develop and launch developer communities, programs and tools for companies like eBay, Inc, PayPal, AOL Inc., and Magento Amy has a B.A. Degree in Biology from the College of Charleston and is also a lifetime Girl Scout and current troop leader who has earned the Gold Award.
Valerie Sessions serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Charleston Southern University. She is also employed by the Navy Information Warfare Center Atlantic (formerly the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center) as a computer scientist. She received her doctorate in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of South Carolina. She serves on the board of Charleston Women in Tech and the Palmetto Roost
Shannon Williams is the VP Sales & Marketing at BoomTown. She is passionate about building and leading highly productive teams and cultivating women in leadership and technology. Her expertise lies in revenue generation, marketing and sales alignment, brand and go-to-market strategies, and customer experience. She currently serves as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at BoomTown and has held previous leadership roles at Amazon, Blackbaud, Lennar, and Pulte.
