OfferUp - Modernizing an iOS App - Trials and Tribulations

OfferUp 1715 114th ave SE , Bellevue, WA (map)

What's up Seattle iOS Devs!

We are going to get this Meetup going again over the next few months (our apologies for the hiatus). We are kicking things off with one of the most exciting startups in the Greater Seattle area, OfferUp! The folks at OfferUp have generously offered to host us at their offices in Bellevue on Mar 23. A few members of the OfferUp iOS team will be giving a panel discussion on how they modernized their iOS application. It should be an awesome chat, so we hope you will all be able to make it!

As always, drinks and food will be provided. A huge thank you to OfferUp for sponsoring this event!

Jake Alewel - iOS Software Development Engineer

I first started developing for iOS in high school over six years ago; back in the days of iOS 4. I joined OfferUp three and a half years ago during the summer after my freshman year of college. I graduated from the University of Washington in the spring of 2016. My hobbies include skiing, skydiving, filmmaking, and designing games for VR.

Fred Torres - iOS Software Development Engineer

I am an iOS Software Developer Engineer. I work on the iOS Refactoring Team. Our main goal is to refactor the iOS Application to improve its internal design, performance, and robustness. We also add some features while on the refactoring process.

I have been working on Software Development for the last 30 years, 1.5 year at OfferUp. I started working on COBOL and hierarchical databases in 1986. I shifted to Informix 4GL and its relational database in 1993. In 1998, I joined the Object Oriented Programming world by embracing Java technologies. In 2011, I switched to Application Development on iOS and Objective-C. It has been an exciting ride, full of learning and adjustment
