We believe that any city can be a hub of innovation, creativity and high-technology. Innovators are everywhere, they just need to find each other. We're a community of developers, designers, hackers, hustlers, founders, freelancers, makers, mad-scientists, and more. We're the people who get stuff done.

Where's the money?

We get it. You don't want to put your time into something that might not be around tomorrow. After "We've wanted to build something like this for years," the most common thing people say to us is, "How are you going to make money?" Well, we have a plan.

First, we’ll be launching a job board. From our 'back of the napkin' math, single city NextPlex-like solutions with job boards do quite well. Jobs are also big part of the strategy for already established networks like Behance and Dribbble.

Next, we're considering offers from potential sponsors who are well aligned with our mission. This has worked well for organizations like Startup Digest which was sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation before being acquired by Startup Weekend.

These are just our initial plans. We believe there are many other opportunities to to build a sustainable business. However, if we fail we’re committed to open sourcing what is quickly becoming the most advanced online toolset for building local tech communities..

Why not go local?

There are many single city solutions that share our goals, and we think that's great! In fact, that's just how we started: building a solution for the tech community in Rochester, NY. If you’re part of one of these organizations, we’d love to work with you!

We believe that if we're successful we'll be able to offer a few things the single city solutions can't:

  1. A self sustaining business would have the resources necessary to build the powerful tools needed to connect local tech communities.
  2. A network of local tech community sites will bring greater visibility to each city in the network than any single-city solution could alone.
  3. The network has the potential to create connections not only between people within a city, but also between people across cities making all cities’ communities stronger.

We're committed to building this future and we believe this can change the world, but we know we've got a long way to go. You can help! Signup for one of our cities, vote to launch your city, or reach out directly to let us know how we can help each other!
