Are you ready to dive in and start your journey as a web dev? Maybe you want to dip a toe in the water and see what it’s all about before you take the plunge on bootcamp? Be the envy of all of your friends! In this comprehensive, one-day workshop, we’ll delve into the basics and best practices of HTML and CSS to get you started and set you apart from the crowd.
We’ll code together to help you build out a portfolio that you can showcase and build upon as you grow throughout your career in the wonderful world of web development!
10 AM - 12PM: HTML
* Designing your HTML
* The Document Object Model (DOM)
* Semantic Structure
* Building Web Components
12 PM: LUNCH: Food & drink will be provided!
* Specificity — classes vs. IDs
* The Box Model
* Layouts using Flexbox!
* Working with Color
* Importing fonts & icons
2:00 PM: Q&A
By the end of the workshop, we’ll have a static site you can use as your portfolio. Be sure to bring a laptop to code along — and get ready to kick it bootcamp style!
* Download a text editor (VS Code (https://code.visualstudio.com/Download)(recommended), Sublime Text (https://www.sublimetext.com/3), etc.)
If at all possible, come prepared with the following:
* A sentence or two on what you currently do, or what you're seeking to do.
* A sentence on what you like to do in your free time.
* Links to social media sites you'd like to share. Ex. Twitter, LinkedIn, Meetup
* A can-do attitude!
Skim over these sites for a refresher prior to the course (it’s not mandatory, but you’ll get more out of the class if you do):
