In December we welcome back our frequent speaker and R contributor Bryan Lewis.
Title: irlba past and future
The irlba package for estimating partial singular value decompositions is a
popular package (at least 1.5 million downloads according to cranlogs). Bryan
will discuss how it works and its use in applications like network analysis,
matrix completion, clustering, and more. He will cover recent improvements and
additions to the package including a new sparse/penalized PCA method, and
future directions including a possible Tensorflow implementation and why it
might be interesting to use with that.
Speaker: Bryan Lewis is a forager and mathematician. He hunts mushrooms and
works on data science problems related to telemetry from large distributed
computing systems with RStor in silicon valley.
